Tracking your analytics just got easier

Edgar now has the ability to assign UTM values to the links you share— no extra work required on your part! Just share your links using Edgar as usual, and all that sweet, sweet campaign and source data will be available in your Google Analytics reports.

UTM is already enabled in your Edgar account, so you don’t have to do a thing to get going with this feature!

We’ve included answers to a few anticipated questions below.

Got questions? Here, have some FAQs!

Do I need to turn UTM parameters on?

Nope! They’re on by default, so you don’t have to do a thing unless you want to turn off our automatically generated tags. You can turn this feature on or off at anytime from your Settings page.

So how does this feature actually work?

This feature is on by default, and here are the default values Edgar will attach to your links to make them trackable in Google Analytics:

  • Campaign name: meetedgar

  • Campaign source:

  • Campaign medium: social

And here’s what your links will look like:

That depends!

  • If you add UTM values and then enter the entire unshortened link into your content, you don’t need to do anything. You can just keep the feature on, and Edgar will recognize that your link(s) have UTM parameters already and we won’t try to add ours.

  • If you add UTM values and then manually shorten those links before adding them to Edgar, you should turn Edgar’s UTM parameters off.

Can I customize the UTM parameters that are automatically added by Edgar?

The ability to customize UTM tags isn’t available in the current version of this feature— if you have UTM Parameters turned on, Edgar will attach the default values:

  • Campaign name: meetedgar

  • Campaign source:

  • Campaign medium: social

How can I learn more about what UTMs actually are, and how they can help me?

We’ve got a great blog post for you right here: A Look At Edgar’s UTM Tool: What It Is & Why You Need It

The TL;DR is that UTMs (short for Urchin Tracking Module), give you the superpower of tracking link performance by source and campaign!
